They haven't always been great at it (product of each series' respective time) but I love the desire to normalize difference as a core tenant of production. The main example I can think of is including skants as an all-gender uniform choice in TNG that a lot of masc background characters just kinda. Wore. Bc they liked it. No narrative need to comment on it bc it's just A Normal Thing. Sad that it stopped being utilized, but I think of all the new ST I've been able to see, Lower Decks is taking this spirit and running with it in a way the live action Treks can't

Yes yes yes! I love when they manage to show how difference makes them stronger. They definitely fall short a lot but I do remember how impactful it was for me as a kid who wore hearing aids to see disabled characters with assistive technologies working alongside the abled characters. I'd love to see more accomodations and stuff in Trek but I have to agree Lower Decks is the series knocking it out of the park in the IDIC department.
