in reply to @kaara's post:

Following this news account is kind of weird to me because on the one hand it's useful, but on the other hand it...shouldn't be, because we shouldn't need someone reblogging personal staff accounts to know about site bugs.

Sorry this is a weird roundabout way of saying thanks for what you're doing, even though I don't think it should be necessary in the first place lol

You commented on my post so it came to me.

In any case, we do post anything super important to the @staff account, and anything even more important to the sidebar. The reality was that this just wasn't that important to communicate. It affected very few people, was already 80% fixed by the time I posted, and was unlikely to affect anyone here, considering the bug only affected un-activated accounts. It was certainly important for us to fix quickly, but not one that really needed or warranted communication. The reason I posted on my personal: the bug was funny.

While I know there are a lot of people that want to keep up with every single bug fix, issue, small papercut, and line of work we do, it would greatly diminish our ability to actually communicate important or critical information through appropriate channels. We fix weird bugs literally every day. If we posted about every single one to @staff, frankly, it would become a boy who cried wolf scenario. Given that, we usually don't even talk about the small bugs.

But this is still social media and, as users of this site like you, we like to post about the things going on in our lives or the little things at work. Stuff that doesn't need to be communicated, but I want to share with my friends and followers.

ultimately, the news account collects all the small stuff for the people that really do want everything - most people don't.
