as somebody who played this game on her DS yeeeaaaars ago in high school, it's a surprise even to me that I hadn't seen the anime adaptation before. but i also never had access to the anime subscription service to watch it, nor the desperation to YarHar it. finally got the opportunity to though, and damn this thing is hella faithful to the game.

dunno how good it is as an anime for people who haven't played twewy, but it's honestly just what i wanted from an anime adaptation of this game when i was playing it. it's rough in parts with especially noticeable issues in audio mixing and missing foley, potentially caused by the excessive crunch in japanese animation studios that was just coming to light around the time this anime came out. even so, the blend between 2D and 3D animation is pretty damn good, and had me guessing for the first half of the first episode whether it was entirely 3D animated or just a mixture.

i dunno if i'd recommend the world ends with you: the animation to everybody, because the anime definitely panders to my already having played the game it's based on. but i find that it runs pretty damn close to how i imagined a twewy anime adaptation would go. your mileage may vary.

at the very least, find a DS emulator and give the game a shot. it's an extremely innovative action JRPG that tasks you with controlling your partners attacks as well as your own, separating your attention between the top and bottom screen on the DS. for that reason it's deceptively fast-paced, ideal for those who love gameplay that forces you to make multiple decisions in combat all at once with blistering pace. it also has a cute mini-game that's kinda like beyblades so that's cool too. it also has a sequel that i haven't played yet, so i'll have to look into that.

Glad to hear the animation is worth watching!! I got this game in high school when it first came out and I swear this game changed me and it has remained one of my favorite games.
brb, gotta go listen to Twister now...

Also, the sequel is pretty good. It's kinda rough in places and it didn't hit me as hard as the original did (maybe because I'm older and in a different place now) but it does a good job with the mechanics of making you feel like you are controlling a team of people all at once, the characters are all very cute and charming, and of course hasva story with some powerful themes revolving around making connections with the people around you. Definitely worth playing if you loved the original.

I'd say that playing the original on an emulator isn't the best way to play, unless it's done with touchscreen or a drawing tablet attached.
On the other hand, Solo Remix is easily available on mobile devices and this has a lower barrier of entry than trying to fiddle with an emulator.
