looked at a can of ginger beer and found "neutral cloud" in the ingredients. did not remember to look it up until today. apparently this describes a class of additives specifically intended to make drinks look cloudier, and thus more interesting

More seriously: oh huh, I wonder if that's only used in ginger beer? I've never seen it in anything I've bought and I don't recall seeing it in the 90s, back when I actually drank root beer and cream soda and stuff (but not ginger beer).
