the ending to Invisible Cities is such an incredible shock to the senses

#Invisible Cities#you ever read something that just blasts your mind wide open? bc that happened like five times while reading this book#changing the framing of the inferno from a possibly-inevitable future to a continuing present whose existence is perpetuated by compliance is the PERFECT encapsulation of the eternal emergency

Calvino was so good. Wish our schools focused more on him and less on traditionally scholastic authors like Manzoni

I agree, Calvino rules. His deft use of language and gorgeous worldbuilding sketches in the pursuit of reaching fundamental truths as swiftly as possible are absolutely incredible
