obsessed with the incentive structure of steam curators. there's something going on there that i just do not understand
i feel like i'm in a microeconomics textbook problem rn
so there is this weird underground economy of russian freaks who hoard steam keys. Not to play them, not to resell them. Just to have them. And most of the time what they will do is scrape contact info from steam and set up fake email accounts that look exactly like real streamers, and then ask for keys. There are interviews with these guys and they are just like, "I don't know why I do this. Everyone needs a hobby."
I think the curator feature was intended to try and make these guys a somewhat symbiotic and controlled part of the ecosystem.
