i think trowel main plus increased fire rate has the highest ceiling but the hose seems to be the best at consistent average damage output, and combined with cold water you can survive really difficult set ups pretty quickly. if it's possible to get pierce up to a really high point with the hose i think it might rival the trowel's top end damage but that's just vibe-based, i haven't mathed it out. my guess is the percentage chance on the piercing upgrades means you'd have to get pretty lucky, and a consistent bad luck streak could break a run instantly.

is there any sort of logic to how many teeth snakes drop btw? that part i haven't figured out

wild, i think i had just confirmation-bias'd myself into thinking more snakes is better for teeth drops, like there was some limit to how many teeth per snake, because (in my experience) a cloud snake and a slug snake pair dropped teeth (and therefore let you upgrade on day 2) more consistently than one of those corral/electric looper/rat snakes, despite the oil drops being the same.

thanks for the clarity, that's definitely going to change how i do runs from now on!

Trowels might have the highest ceiling, but they were honestly the hardest for me to get over 40k in. And past a certain point, increasing your damage output isn't going to get you a higher score since you can only have 20

I think it's a 1/5 chance for teeth instead of oil?

As much piercing and cooldown reduction as possible. At least one pair of socks for the noclip frames. Either some extra health or more invuln time to survive the last day long enough to kill one thing for more oil. Probably some fertilizer for some extra damage early on.

If you aren't using trowels, you definitely also want eyepatches for that massive headshot multiplier. For trowels, it's less useful because you're going to be aiming for piercing for rather than headshots, but eyepatches still work on secondary attacks like fertilizer.

Oh, another strategy? On the last day, once you stop being able to afford Big Snakes, Kinng Snakes can actually be pretty good. It'll send smaller snakes after you, and those snakes will also drop oil and fangs. Not a lot, compared to the bosses, but over an entire day it adds up, especially if you keep the Kings alive as long as possible. You can easily get more than 50 oil from the minions, so that's 150+ oil for the price of 40 coins!
