it's so magical how "maroon" is both a color and a verb. like wow, there are so few words like that. maybe orange is the same way and we'd never know

"Orange" is already pretty fucked up linguistically because the color is named after the fruit, which is named after Dutch royal family. For all I know, "orange" is a verb that means to declare independence from Spain.
Maroon is also a noun! It referred to the wilderness communities made by escaped slaves. One in the Okefenokee Swamp lasted for years.
