something that keeps hitting me about RTD's vision of Doctor Who is that it's so... openly misanthropic? this was true of his first run and it appears true of the second run as well -- both Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle have a very direct moment of stating that humanity as a whole is a violent, hateful species, only redeemed by rare, exceptional people. it's an extremely bleak outlook which felt Correct in the grunge of 2005 but just feels weird in 2023. i really want to believe in people more than that, y'know?
