Adolphe Sax almost died a dozen times as a child, went on to invent the saxophone, and then would have music duels with anyone who critiqued his new and outrageous instrument, which he would win on account of it being so loud that more people could hear him.
I don't know if this will help you at all but it might just inspire something. Also more people should know about Adolphe Sax.
