with correct opinion cadence the best times for fantasy rpgs are shit like wizardry and might and magic where you would have wizards doing spells while traversing crashed starships against robot sentries and nerds who scream for nothing but pure high fantasy are big buttwipes.
Began when they retconned the space station in FF1 to a Castle in the Sky
Half of what I mean by Vapormage as "FF with the serial numbers filed off" is that mashup of medieval/modern/futuristic fantasy all coexisting with nobody pointing out that it's kinda weird to have to have "people living in castles" alongside "instantaneous remote telecommunication" and "freakin' magic" and "interstellar travel" and we're still left with like a third of the franchise hitting all those points? And frankly a FF that doesn't do that is a disappointment to me now
