one of my goals as a composer is to make music that people won't be indifferent to. i'd rather make something that polarizes people, that they either love or hate. i guess this is what it means to craft something that's unabashedly my own.
i realize it's pragmatically impossible to achieve this, and my ideas (as with anyone's) are bound to just bounce off of some folks no matter what i do... after all, tastes run the full gamut. but at the same time i do keep a clear goal of "wanting to make an impression", and i think that's part of what's driven me to synthesize something unique. relatively anyway.
maybe this is all part of "finding one's voice", hmm, i am not sure. it feels like a slightly different but related tenet
