daily song post is BACK baybeeee (for a while anyway) it's been a while since i have daily song posted! to refresh your memories or freshly inform you, i just post a playback video of one of my songs and then write some exclusive-to-cohost words about it on here about how it was made + maybe some other thoughts about it. for a while i was doing this daily, and i will be again at least for a few weeks, but broadly speaking it's a misnomer :D

today's song is: Citreous Isle of Serenity, for the SNES's soundchip SPC700, from my new album Distant Islands!

this song is in 7edo! as in there are seven equally-spaced notes per octave instead of twelve. i've done a couple things in this tuning now and i really like how it sounds; it's easy to use because it sort of comes across like pentatonic, which i think is basically how this song sounds despite being microtonal.

it is easily the most straightforward song on the album, and perhaps the least glitchified of the bunch, but i still put a lot of detail work into the sequencing--lots of cool pitch bends on the lute part (and the "rolls" turned out pretty well i think), scoops and bends on the flute, and careful drum rolls, in the hope of making it feel as alive as possible. the shaker is probably the only "weird" part about it, panning around and sometimes chopped up.

when the melody climbs up high i kind of leaned into one of my favorite melodies of all time, from holst's "jupiter" from the planets suite, for a few bars lol. my version is in 4 and i tried to make it kind of distinct but i noticed it as i was writing for sure.
