my glasses broke earlier (with a pathetic whimper, they snapped in half when i tossed them across the couch before napping) ... i have one good eye, but i underestimated how useful the little boost in its prescription is too, cause my eyes are exhausted after a few hours

on the bright side, they were like 6 years old - i'm gonna go get an updated prescription and then order some new cute frames from zenni and i am looking forward to that at least. my last couple pairs have just been "the regular thick black plastic frames with the rounded rectangle lenses" but this time i am gonna branch out and get a couple cute options i think. yay

yeah the ones from the stores IRL are ridiculous, that's why i like zenni optical cause there are a ton of cheap picks from like $15-30 instead of hundreds of dollars

it does go up a bit depending on your prescription and lens needs but still much more reasonable

Both frames and lenses. Glasses are massively overpriced. They are a high margin item. When you're getting your glasses you can knock $30, maybe $50 off the price depending on how bold you are. Haggling isn't dead (yet).

Also when you go to get new lenses don't let them upsell you on transition lenses or blue-light shields unless those are features you're sure you want. Transitions suck in my opinion. They're so slow to de-transition so I have to take them off for the first 5-10 minutes that I walk into a building.
With both transition lenses and blue-light shields associates will tell you there's no tint but there absolutely is. Even indoors where there's no UV my transition lenses will always be slightly darker and redder than my actual eyesight and it's very annoying to me. If you want those features be sure that you won't get annoyed by the lack of color accuracy.

oh yeah i can't stand transition lenses haha. and one time i let myself try some fancy protective film on the lenses (i forget its exact purpose) and after a few months' time it started to dissolve into this gross, vision-obstructing layer that took ages to clean and wear off. i will not mess with that stuff anymore. just plain prescription lenses for me...

It's always sad when glasses break (I have been through many) but I always love getting a new pair! They contribute so much to a person's style, it's fun to switch it up.
