ok yeah i haven't been posting or writing much recently so this thing sounds like a fun time. a small post a day with a given prompt. i only just saw this now, so i'll do the first two days in one here...
#1 - Trick or Treat!
it's been more years than i can count since i've been even slightly involved in either side of trick or treating, but i do have fond memories of it as a kid. this kid's family who i've known since i was 4 would always throw these big yearly halloween shindigs where all the kids would hang in the basement playing video games, go trick or treating in a very active neighborhood, and then come back to play more video games and eat/trade candy. meanwhile all the parents would get sloshed on jello shots and all sorts of mixed drinks and beers. i remember it being uniquely fun and raucous. one year when i was like 9 or 10, we were playing my copy of Super Mario RPG, where i was at the final boss, and when we got up mid-fight to go start the trick or treating, someone ejected the game, corrupting my save. it would be several years before i'd go back through and beat the whole game again.
#2 - backup of a backup
out of many hundreds of music project files, i've only ever lost one (1), which i'm pretty sure got cleaned up off my desktop accidentally while doing routine de-cluttering in like 2011. i had dropbox back then but i wasn't as careful about using it, and i remember having a different music projects folder on my desktop pc's hard drive. it's long gone, but i have the render, and regardless i've taken the ideas in that song and given them new life much more recently, so its spirit is alive and well.
the only instance of truly careless data loss i can think of is losing a big folder of pictures i'd taken that happened to be in a different place than the rest, which i forgot about while doing a plain old routine reformat+reinstall. definitely a big regret on that one, but it sure made me more careful...! most everything else is backed up on dropbox, in another folder on this pc, and on a couple external hard drives. backups of backups indeed.
