howdy hi and welcome to back to... well this doesn't have a name but i'm posting one (1) tracker or DAW video of a song of mine every day on youtube and then sharing some thoughts about it here. feel free to comment or ask questions, and i hope you enjoy!

<-- the previous day's song | the next day's song -->

today's song is: Undines & Salamanders, for the NES's Ricoh 2A03 chip

one of the first handful of tunes i ever made in FamiTracker, this brief and raucous little song has one of my favorite melodies i've written. it is a rare earworm that i even caught someone else singing to themselves after showing them the song. i didn't expect that feeling to be so flattering.

this and "Sylphids & Gnomids", the other NES track on my EP from February Elemental Harmony, were the first two tunes written, and originally just functioned as a pair, but the roster of elemental spirit critters quickly expanded and i knew i had a little collection-in-the-making on my hands. the melodic focus was important to me on this one. i like that all the songs on the EP are short and digestible, but in hindsight, i think more could be done with this one in particular. i'm faster at working in trackers now, but the Elemental Harmony tunes actually took a LONG time to write, and this one was no exception. a different arrangement might be somewhere in this song's distant future πŸ€”

sorta tangentially, i recently purchased a famicom with which to play back chiptunes on hardware - gonna bite the bullet on an everdrive here on black friday.
