today's song is: undines' grace, from my ambient glitch EP Elemental Chaos
it's water music time! i remember making this field recording from a huge rainstorm down by my garage door, sitting nearby enjoying the fuzz. there are a lot of individual moments in this piece that i think are really special, like 0:42-0:59 where the rhythmic stutters glide through several different instruments, some of the cutaways like 2:36 and 2:59, and the sort of "coda" section at 4:04, which gives me head shivers. i felt like the main "melody" in both the piano and the distorted synth were really mournful and weeping. those parts of the atmosphere i'm quite pleased with.
this was also the hardest one to mix, and i'm still not sure i got it entirely right. a couple of the instruments were kinda compressed and hard to deal with once combined with everything else - it happened both at the very beginning and at 1:59 with the big mallet statement, which was supposed to be this huge front-and-center thing but i never got it to pop in quite the way that i wanted. that's okay i guess! it's not like these things would be particularly evident to anyone besides myself.
