it's time for another song post! yesterday i posted an album instead of a song (and you should check it out especially if you're curious what i have been up to super-recently) but now we're going back to your regularly scheduled "i post a video of one of my songs and write about it here on cohost". welcome back

<-- the previous day's song | the next day's song -->

today's song is: in full bloom (jaxcheese collab), written in pxtone (specifically the ptcollab version in realtime collaboration mode!)

me 'n' jax wrote this tune for Spring Tracks last year over the course of a few sessions; i came up with the initial idea at the piano and then we arranged it in pxtone. we both added in some samples we liked and worked in tandem on the various parts! he did the funky bassline and a lot of the accompaniment, i did a lot of the melody, we both worked on drums, and really we bounced around a bunch doing various alterations and shapings that needed doing. it was a really fun time. oh yeah, and we each wrote a solo - mine was recorded on my Roli keyboard and his was sequenced with the sax sample.

i hope we collaborate again some time, he was a great songmakin' partner. i think the result really sounds like both of us!

in reply to @hvb's post:

I love this! Such complex/complicated arrangements and melodies, but it manages to all tie together nicely. It sounds effortless, but I imagine this was monumental task to put this all together. Very non-intuitive transitions...they are really good.

I've always wanted to try one of those Roli MPE keyboards.

ahh thank you so much : ) i appreciate the kind words! i love the Roli, my only complaint is that the velocity response can be kinda wacky (so you have to be careful), but imo just the sounds available (amazing) and range of expressivity totally make up for it - i can do stuff with it i wouldn't be able to otherwise
