it's time once more for the daily songposting! if you missed yesterday's, i wholeheartedly recommend it in particular! yesterday i shared one of the all-time best dami-tunes (imho). today i will share a cool song too though... this is because it is a Collaboration with an Epic Composer Person.

today's song is: Dance or Die (collab with blue.nocturne), for MSGS MIDI

this entry holds the distinction of the first MIDI i ever submitted to internet web site battle of the bits, which now that that number is like 160 or something is quite notable. we made this dramatic dance-off for "MIDI Death Battle" and tried to go deep on the theme. the idea was that the beats get progressively chopped off so it goes from 8 -> 7 -> 6 etc until you run out of beats... then hopefully you don't die???

as we've done pretty much every time we've collabed (5 times now i think?), we passed the .flp back and forth a few times writing a section or so at a time, sometimes tweaking each others' work but mostly working in chunks. we also added a lot of fun SFX! most of them were BlueNoc's idea, sound wizard that he is, but i'm proud of my funny Fretless Bass voice made by furiously waggling the pitch in wide intervals.

working on this was a big contributor towards me getting back into MIDI! making MIDIs was where i got my start way back in 2003 with some ancient versions of Finale and later FL (i also used to open up MIDI files from vgmusic to see how they work and learn the parts), but it fell by the wayside for a long time until we wrote this in late 2020 and my love for the format was rekindled. a healthy revival, for sure : )
