today's song is: Untold Treasures ~ A New World, for .mptm (souped up .it module)
this is... ah, this is the very first thing i ever tracked. LOL it's quite a trip looking back on this roughly 2.5 years later. maybe if you haven't known me that long it'll come as a surprise that using trackers has only been a fairly recent development in my entire musical arc, but well, it's true! i just happened to gradually fall in love with them and here we are now. it was a pretty slow burn; it took me several months of futzing around both on my own and in XHBs (X-hour battles) to get comfortable with the workflow. it did not click quickly, i wanted to give up at first.
so, although it's a little embarrassing to be sharing, i thought it'd be an interesting one to look at! this was before i had done any authentic chiptune (wow!), but it was written for a "SNES and SNES-like" compilation; we all chose games' sample sets to work with. mine was Rudra's Treasure / Treasure of the Rudras / Rudora no Hihou which is a big favorite of mine. i played the fan translation of that game as a teen and the game enchanted me - its unique custom magic system, its multiple-but-interlocking plots, and of course its music, courtesy of Ryuji Sasai. in the song i didn't adhere extremely strictly to the 8-channel polyphony limit, but there are only a few places where it is exceeded, and i think it would translate just fine. the only applied effect was a global SnesDelay instance.
since this is extremely early tracker music for me, you can see that i had not yet learned about the magic of the effects column (mostly) and i did a hell of a lot more volume control via the volume column rather than through volume slide effects, envelopes, etc. cute! i remember this taking quite a long time to put together, especially since i was trying to focus on all the little moving parts. i had a melody i really liked for this one and tried to weave it in as many ways as i could.
maybe someday in the far future this one will get a real SNES makeover/rearrange/addition! we'll see
