Love when a marathon runs directly in front of the only entrance to my apartment complex and I have to figure out how to get to work

oh gods I just remembered there are going to be fireworks tonight, most of them set off by idiots. At least I no longer live next door to the Chief Idiot anti-vaxxer who set off fireworks nearly every night for a GODDAMN YEAR.

More relevantly, I remember living in a Christie-fundie town for a year where one of the most sacred events was the Car Parade. Not only was one of the only two significant streets in the town completely blocked, but the sidewalks were so packed with spectators in beach chairs that the entire town was effectively shut down for the day.

One may think "Oh, a parade where people drive old classic cars from the first half of the twentieth century sounds interesting, at least." And yes, it might have been, though parking the cars in one of the enormous local parking lots would have been far more effective. But this is making an assumption: the assumption that these were classic, beautiful, or historically important collector's vehicles.

They were JUST CARS. Carefully polished and detailed cars, but COMPLETELY ORDINARY CARS.
