i love it when the word "political" is said in a David Cronenberg movie because you KNOW he's about to show you a coherent political ideology adapted to the circumstances of the film, which would be absolutely absurd if it existed in the real world. stuff like "neonazis are inventing a new ultra-potent brand of pornography that makes your brain explode" and "the government is trying to stop you -- yes, you in particular -- from eating plastic"

What pleases me about this is the tacit recognition, via Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method, that the toxic symbiosis between law enforcement and organized crime on the one hand, and psychoanalysis on the other, are absurd on the same order of magnitude as the ideologies articulated in his other films.
