ink making progress posts here

like with the shaggy ink caps a while back, the glistening ink cap ink is interesting to use. unlike that first project, and probably because i let it sit in a jar for ages this time, it separated a lot into a black globby sludge and a pale brown liquid which i had to stir quite vigorously to reintegrate.

it comes out very light and you need a couple of passes or a lot on your brush to get dark areas. i'll need more experiments to work out how to get the best results from it but i do find the kind of silty texture pleasing and want to lean in to that.

again i'm going from memory but i think it's overall less smooth to paint with than the shaggy ink cap stuff, and certainly more awkward than any commercial drawing inks or watercolours i've used, although that makes sense. i haven't used any binding agents and might try that next time to see how it paints then, though it adheres to the paper very happily as it is.

i'm an out-of-practice painter and a total novice at using natural pigments so any and all suggestions welcome!
