The Tony Hawk of Tokimeki Memorial

A most of the time Japanese>English game translator and writer and all the time dating sim wonk.

Been finally making my way through the Spy x Family anime in Japanese for about the last week-ish. I'm not quite as madly in love with it as a lot of people, but it's cute and the writing does regularly make me crack up. I get why it took off so stratospherically last year and, yeah, I'll probably go watch that movie when it comes out in theaters here just to enjoy a little more of that chemistry.

Anyway, Yor, as a lot of seiyuu heads are probably aware, is voiced by Saori Hayama. While most everybody else is probably like, "Yep, that's her voice, all right" and go on with watching each episode, my brain is busted enough that after hearing pretty much that exact same voice every day for nine straight months in 2020 coming out of Manaka in Love Plus, all I can pretty much ever think when she's on screen is, "my DS girlfriend is a good mom. I'm glad to see she's doing great these days."

Barring the precipitous amount of crime one of them commits, they're such similar characters in practice that it's strangely felt a little like coming home to roost. Some might call it a case of typecasting, which I think definitely happens a lot to Hayama given how much of a splash Love Plus and Manaka both made in their heyday. But for me, it's all just verbal comfort food, and that's all right by me. :eggbug-relieved:

Anyway, I recommend playing Love Plus for the better part of a calendar year if you, too, want to be haunted by your own DS girlfriend's exploits in other media for the rest of your days.
