...Mahjong Fight Girl, the new arcade spinoff of Konami's long-running Mahjong Fight Club series, which launched earlier this year to little fanfare. They seem to be running the same playbook as they did for Bombergirl (''this game's floundering, quick, hit the Shiori button") and that game somehow clawed on for long enough to eventually become reasonably popular, so maybe it'll work again this time, too.

Whatever the case, a lot of people are just happy to see new animated Shiori content, such as it is, in 2023:

A friend linked me to this just yesterday because,

y'know.

Anyway, quite the fun little racket they're running on this Shiori content. I wasn't aware of this game until yesterday, but digging into it, this isn't a case of, "They just added her to the playable character screen and you can pick her and go on your merry way." No, you go to a separate site, where you can spend either about 4000 yen for the pleasure of just playing as her, or about 7000 yen to both unlock her and get a slate of cut-in animations when you make big plays and stuff, which can also be bought separately for 4000 yen, if you prefer. Then, there's a separate gacha where you can unlock fancier cut-ins because what's a modern day Japanese arcade game without some gacha systems to go with your 100-300 yen price of admission.

Genuinely impressed that Mami Kingetsu can still get that pitch and inflection like 95% of the way there now that she's in her late 50s, though.
