The Tony Hawk of Tokimeki Memorial

A most of the time Japanese>English game translator and writer and all the time dating sim wonk.

I genuinely try not to think about Tokimeki Memorial 3 more than I'm legally required to, but I ran into a guide for it while I was shopping around Osaka again yesterday and it reminded me just how miserably designed its cast is. I dunno about the rest of you, but I genuinely have to look at places other than their faces to tell them all apart because of how hauntingly close they all resemble one another. Quite possibly the single worst designed romantic cast for a dating sim of its vintage from a major player in the space, let alone the founding publisher of the whole thing.

Granted, in the grand scheme of things, that's the least of that game's problems, but god, what a waste of a shift to a cel shaded polygonal engine for that series. It hurts so bad and nobody can make me ever finish a run of this game. Nobody. :eggbug-pensive:

My god, you managed to find the one situation I would accept that particular title into my heart. You have my sincere congratulations, you did what I thought was the genuine impossible! 🎉

The models at least are; I don't think I've ever seen any art assets for these characters that aren't high fidelity versions of what's used in-game. The backgrounds are probably 2D, though, yeah. Tokimemo 3 itself does a lot of that sort of classical compositing and it was always my impression the marketing assets are the same way.
