Pouring one out for Tango tonight. I knew that Shinji Mikami was a real one among Japanese dev OGs when he took time to personally thank us localizers for our years of work on Ghostwire prior to its release. That's always meant a lot to me and spoke to the really healthy work culture it seemed like they had managed to foster over there, especially for a Japanese studio. I was really rooting for them in their next chapter and Xbox is definitely lesser without their unique touches in such an otherwise heavily American and western portfolio.

Yeah, for as much as Tango was always a convenient bonus for them in terms of business politics when they mostly had their eye on Bethesda for Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and (probably to a lesser extent) Id, it's still a gut-punch to see them kick their sole Japanese studio to the curb like that. Inevitably, when they still have trouble courting Japanese devs to their side five, ten years from now for reasons beyond Game Pass contracts and sheer international market inertia, I'm sure Microsoft execs when asked about it will throw their arms up in the air like they always do and be like, "Well, we tried" without taking any responsibility for how very, very little they've done to inspire confidence in this part of the industry that they're a reliable partner who are in it for the long haul.
