self care as an adult in japan is when you realize that if there's a drink that's sold "only" in vending machines, you can just order it in bulk online if you know where to look and have as many as you want within arm's reach 24/7 without ever stepping out of your house and, like, having to walk to the nearest train station or something

(but you still should from time to time because your favorite source for curry bread is within feet of your normal vending machine and you're only getting the good stuff the old fashioned way)

At the height of lockdowns in 2020 and I was even deeper into my Japan proxy shipping spree, I nearly paid a similarly obscene amount of money to import just a truck load of my favorite Japanese chocolates that basically stopped getting sold in my area at the time after briefly appearing at my grocery store for like a month. Considering inflation has since made them go up in price even here, in hindsight, I can't help but wonder if I should've pulled the trigger any and lived like a king while I could. 😩
