For context, I was born in Coyhaique and mate is super common there (like, all corner stores carry it common)

The first few things to keep in mind is to not boil the water. There's some cues to figure out good temperature but if you want to make sure, grab a thermometer or an electric kettle with temperature indicator. Those exist and aren't too costly

Mate listos (the nice individual big mate with its own water compartment) are pretty comfy if you just wanna drink alone

For yerba, you can always just get plain for a first taste. You can mix herbal teas and infusions once you get the gist of it if you want to add some flavors (my mom would mix lint or camomile during this summer for a fresher taste).
