Cave Story is really good. like... really really good. i'm playing for the first time in too many years and it's aged like fine wine
every time i go back to it i'm impressed with how well it holds up. just an all timer.
i think there are some minor flaws (the extreme ramp-up of difficulty at the end mainly imo) but honestly? it's up there with Tetris on my Perfect Games list
oh yeah it's got lots of flaws, but it's just... it's so hard to divorce the game from said flaws. like, yeah the game has terrible signposting for it's best ending and requires a baffling set of actions no gamer in their right mind would take, but that's part of why i love it? it's so charming and good, and aside from that it's just amazing to play
god i should play it again, i think i played it for the first time in 2011 or something?
doooo iiiiit. i also played for the first time around then, i think in 2010. i paid 1200 Wii Points for the privilege haha
what's the right way to play it? I have the steam version but idk what's up these days
i think i'm super weird and swear by the Wiiware version (but not with the updated music/graphics, not a fan of those). but! the Steam version is great as well. there's also a fanmade open source reproduction of the engine i've heard good things about which can run the original version on basically everything. check out https://www.cavestory.org/download/cave-story.php
oh man you're making me wanna go and replay it..... i beat that one so many times that i'm sure i've got it soooo deep in my muscle memory to this day
oh but now i've got it on switch so i wonder if the hand-eye coordination would translate from keyboard to controller? only one way to find out!
