Took some time to revise my thoughts about Tumblr's CEO's post on "Why Go Nuts, Show Nuts Doesn't Work in 2022." As I'm sure the cohost @staff is painfully aware, community guidelines that are inclusive, protect the community from harm and keep the moderation work to a reasonable load are very difficult to make.

It's easy to critique from the sidelines, but harder when you're the one crafting the rules. I'm hopeful and rooting for them in their discussions.

My issue with the Tumblr CEO's post, however, is the message he sends to the community of, "if you don't like the systemโ€”change it" all while contributing to said system. While said with good intentions, it's deceptive.

In the case of Tumblr the CEO's just making excuses for why he doesn't want to risk pissing off Apple's walled garden censors. Unlike Reddit or Twitter, they failed to tell Apple 'you need me more than I need you' back when they had hundreds of millions of users.
