I miss getting summer music recommendations. Before Spotify or Pandora, my friends would send me what they were listening to. That's how I discovered a lot of cool artists I'd never otherwise listen to.
For the summer months, I thought this might be a cool community thing for cohost.
What do you say? Wanna make a mixtape together?
how to participate
- post a song; link to the artist's soundcloud/bandcamp/website so that folks can listen and support.

- single songs ok! playlists ok!
- make sure to tag your chost #cohost summer mixtape
- bookmark and listen to folks' music
- if you think this is cool, rechost it
Send over some jams, please!
Been browsing the #cohost summer mixtape tag and have been getting inspired by folks showcasing their favorite artists through multiple songs.
Sadly, one of my favorite artists doesn't have an official YouTube/Bandcamp, because they're a Japanese band that played from 1999~2011 until they disbanded and the singer Isshi's untimely death several months later. The best way to get their music is through Spotify or through CDs. The links I'll post are unofficial YouTube links.
Their name is Kagrra,. Yes, the comma is intentional; Japanese visual kei bands of the early 00's were wild like that. Irodori (彩)and [gozen] (午前) are probably my favorite albums.
"Kami uta 神歌" - Kagrra,
"Ayashi no Hikari 怪しの光" - Kagrra,
"Shuuen no Kisetsu 終焉の季節" - Kagrra,
Kagrra, was originally a Japanese-style visual kei band, which blended glam rock/goth with traditional Japanese attire, similar to their music. I'm a big fan of traditional/classical instruments blended with rock or punk. Isshi's vocal range is insane. I've never been able to find a band that was like Kagrra, since.
The closest sound to Kagrra, I've been able to find in modern Japanese music is Wagakki Band (和楽器バンド), but they're more pop-punk than Kagrra, was.
