The Shadow Hearts series has captured my heart for a long time—and since there's recently been an exciting update to the series, I thought I'd write a post talking about why I love Shadow Hearts and why I still look to it as an influence, twenty-plus years later.

I'm going to give you a (mostly) spoiler-free longchost about why Shadow Hearts is so inspirational.

Read on.

I mentioned in this post that I wanted to play Koudelka. Even though I love the series, I was never able to afford an English copy of the game.

Well, I got my hands on a used Japanese copy of Koudelka, and figured out how to run it on my computer. So I’m going to stream it next week, Tuesday, July 25th at 7:30PM JST on Twitch.

Anyone interested come on by!

Oh yeah 25+ years later and theyre still going. Hell, Kyo is in two other bands, and Die had one called Decays. Dunno if they'll ever return Stateside, hopefully someday. I saw them in December 2019 just before Covid happened.

I never did play Koudelka but I did play Shadow Hearts! I even had Covenant and From the New World, but burned out on RPGs before I got to them, then, to make it worse, sold off my ps2 collection 😓

SH1 was really cool though and I’m very much back on the RPG train so I intend to get back to the series. This has definitely helped remind me of why I want to do that!

Yes! This is just my personal opinion, but when I first played SH2, I wasn't as into it as SH1 because the dynamic focuses on Yuri and Karin, who, IMHO was written pretty inconsistently with her character concept.

However, looking back on it, SH2's last half of the game is, I think, where the game really shines.

Would love to hear your thoughts when you get back into the games!
