Starting a new thread because the other NaNoWriMo post is rather long. Here's last week's status update.

"Nightengale" is DONE! I did some light edits (as editing usually takes more time and produces less words) to the flow of the story. It comes in at a cool 8,000 words; so you can probably see how much of my writing was typing and re-typing the story.

That total of 17,565 words includes:

  • a daily journal of 300-800 words to braindump ideas/thoughts of the day so I can focus (2,200 words, raw)
  • a small report for a club (336 words, edited)
  • Nightengale (8,000 words, edited)
  • plotting for Magnolia's Cooking game/magic system (~1,000 words, raw)

I hope this shows the sheer volume of words I must write in order to get something to a semi-edited place; even after this I'll be doing some heavy editing on Nightengale to make it "ready for public consumption." I don't know if my process is slower or faster than others, or if ADHD brain is getting in the way of more efficient production, but that's my current pace.

If I have one unsolicited piece of advice for other writers, it's write a lot. Keep writing a lot. And some good stuff can come out of it.
