the way yall treat dylan mulvaney is just fucking insane. its 2024 i dont careeee if some trans woman made a bad song about girlhood. you guys are annoying. leave her alone
i remember when she came out in like… 2020 or 2021 the internet fucking exploded. like. i remember the feminist convo went from “men should cary tampons and pads in case their female friends need them, solidarity/there’s nothing wrong with periods” and then dylan said “yeah i bring tampons with me in my purse in case someone says they need one” and everyone exploded about how she was apropriating the female experience or whatever dumb shit. if she got a sponsorship and put out an add hundreds of cis women will talk about how they, randos on the internet who dont do marketing and have no actual media presence, didnt get to be influencers being paid to model bras or something.
now. everyone dressed up in pink for the barbie movie. everybody posted “i’m just a girl” and “girl math is when you splurge shopping” and “girl fact: we’re much more emotional than boys” on tiktok, and it just went ignored. wearing heavy makeup and going broke on skincare and plastic surgery and filters became branded as self care, but the women who did any of that were labeled as dumb boy obsessed bitches by. other women. but the instant dylan writes, as others have put it, a “girls just wanna have fun” song, then suddenly she’s the worst thing to ever happen to women everywhere.
no matter what trans women do, it’s always wrong. if you’re miserable then good, fuck you, but if you like being a woman and are happy about it then suddenly you’re antifeminist and patronizing. just leave her alone
I gave the song a listen and it's not even bad. The song itself was alright and I thought the outfits in the music video were cute. It's just bog standard upbeat summer pop. I don't even mean that as an insult, I'm just trying to stress that it's inoffensive in every way. Literally the only reason as to why people feel compelled to handwring over 'stereotypes' or 'appropriating womanhood' or whatever is because Dylan is trans, and her music video features trans women having fun and expressing joy.
