This really snuck up on me! Anyone play it yet, thoughts? From some of the dev blogs it sounded like he was planning to work in a few elements that you usually see in roguelite games rather than roguelikes (a “relic” system, notably) and add more constraints and randomness to the offered spells and upgrades. I know this may turn off some other RW1 fans but I personally really like this idea, I loved RW1 but it was a bit sandbox-y which is not my cup of tea. I like being forced to pivot, make the best of bad situations and discover unexpected synergies in games like this.

Scary-looking but he was no match for my fiery horde and my eye spells. I'm running a fire-and-ice eye magic build with some great add-ons that let me churn out huge swarms of fire units to frontline for me. I just took the Steam Anima skill too, so that is gonna be extra fun!

I want to take Unblinking Eye and Floating Eye next, but I know that's way too greedy so I'm going to invest in some translocation magic first so I have a panic button. Great run so far, I'm excited to see how far I can take it. I won't spoil myself but I'm really excited to get to the last level and find out what Mordred is like in this one.

That "corrupts space" note on his breath attack means he literally randomly regenerates the part of the level where he attacks you, adding walls, chasms, and other enemies including minibosses.

What a run, I really thought I was gonna win it... should have invested in more translocation and defense abilities instead of those luxury skills (Steam Anima and Unblinking Eye were 100% worth it though)

It’s a big improvement on an already amazing game, I think you will really like it! Sadly I am not seeing it anywhere other than steam. I suppose if you really wanted to you could torrent the game and then buy it and just not use the steam version haha. I was going to suggest donating to the dev but he doesn’t seem to have a Patreon or anything. He has a really cool interview about his design philosophy here that I think you may enjoy: https://tonehack.net/podcast/ascensionrun003/

I'm enjoying the ridiculous multi-tile enemies in RW2. As someone who preferred playing RW1 with the challenge modes that only give you access to a random subset of the spell list I'm sad that RW2 doesn't have challenge modes yet, but it's been fun seeing all the new stuff. I like the item system but it's still pretty easy to stick with the same general build every run.
