The death of community servers has done so much work entrenching already awful behavior gamers are famous for even further somehow.

I've been playing TF2 on Uncletopia for a year now and actually being able to get toxic people removed from the space is a blessing. Dev run servers with no actual human admins means relying entirely on "hope the shithead isn't playing with friends" if you try to kick them, and muting them just means that every not-shitty person who doesn't want to put up with them also has to mute.

Uncletopia has a dedicated reporting site that integrates with steam so I can see my past reports and know that I'm 4 for 4 on reporting people and having action taken on them, with a 5th recently submitted.

And even then it's still an uphill battle because the tools do suck and are unintuitive for folks! For text chat at least you can just attach a screenshot and a link to their steam profile, but I just had a whole group being garbage over voice and had to instead download a demo, use the crusty as source engine demo player, isolate specific moments and make note of the ticks just before somebody drops a slur over voice or whatever. In addition to having to know that Uncletopia has a website for reports, and SourceTV to even download recordings! Before that all these folks I've been reporting would have just gotten to continue doing their thing.

I want to yell about this more!!
