i keep a thread on twitter of all the worst/best/funniest/weirdest things i get recommended on youtube. i figured i should bring this over to cohost, so here's a best of the thread so far:

a video by MrBallen called 'Hiker gets EATEN ALIVE... and lives.' the thumbnail is of an outdoorsy looking guy with a red arrow pointing at him composited on top of a grainy blue tinted background photo of a bear, and in the bottom left corner is a schlubby lookin white guy pulling a youtube thumbnail face. it has 1.4 million views.

this was my favorite of the first set i posted. the title is just an incredible turn of phrase that is stuck in my head forever.

a video by brent rivera called 'I WENT ON 100 DATES IN 24 HOURS!!' the thumbnail is of a shirtless conventionally attractive white boy poorly photoshopped into a swimming pool next to a similarly poorly photoshopped lineup of conventionally attractive white girls in bikinis. it has 4.4 million views.'

i posted this along with the caption "maybe the worst one i've seen yet," and honestly it might still be. i hate it so much.

a video by HeavyDSparks called 'I BOUGHT A WAREHOUSE FULL OF HUGE HELICOPTERS!' the thumbnail is of a white guy with a beard looking confused in front of a background image of himself gesturing at a large hangar full of helicopters and also a TIE fighter from star wars. there's text that says 'WHAT DID I JUST BUY.' at the top of the thumbnail. it has 1 million views.

my original caption was "you bought a warehouse full of huge helicopters. you just said that." and i still think that's pretty funny.

a video titled 'The Worst Fountain Pen I Have Ever Reviewed' by Figboot on Pens. it has 197 thousand views.

this video actually rules.

a video titled '3 sets of identical twins drive thru telepathy challenge' by the rybka twins. it has 175 thousand views. the thumbnail is of three sets of identical twins in two separate cars holding various mcdonalds food items and making extreme youtube faces. a video titled 'twins take lie detector test EXPOSED' by brooklyn and bailey. it has 273 thousand views. the thumbnail is of a white woman taking a polygraph exam while making an extremely youtube face. an older man sits next to her and gives a thumbs down. huge red text says 'SHE LIED.'

these were part of a whole swathe of twin-related recommendations i got for some reason. i can't believe people think twins are this interesting. also i accompanied the second one with a rant about how polygraph examinations are pseudoscientific nonsense that causes real harm and i hate when people talk about them like they aren't just astrology for cops.

a video titled 'i'm building the first youtuber theme park from bed' by chad wild clay. it has 1.4 million views. a white guy is laying in what seems to be a hospital bed on the left side of the thumbnail, and next to him is a bad photoshop of a youtube themed amusement park.

i have no idea what this one means.

i actually watched this one and i can't figure out if it's good or bad. the dude has the most bizarre voice i have ever heard come out of a human being and he was so angry the whole time about how much of a ripoff he thought the chili's triple dipper was and then he ground the whole thing into a paste and made sausages out of it.

a video by matthew beem titled 'i built pixar's cars in real life!' the thumbnail is of what looks like maybe papier mache cars photoshopped onto a road background. it has 461 thousand views.

this one cracks me up. imagine that. cars in real life. what will they think of next.

a video with 249 thousand views from evettexo titled 'OUR OFFICIAL GENDER REVEAL || BABY #3.' the thumbnail is a black and white image of two adults facing the camera with their heads out of frame and two kids facing them with their backs to the camera. the woman is visibly pregnant and has handprints on her belly. there's very widely tracked text that says 'our intimiate gender reveal.'

i got so many family and pregnancy and gender reveal recs and i hate this one the most. it's a youtube video, do not describe it as "intimate."

a video by preston with 2.2 million views called 'my wife was MURDERED.' the thumbnail features a white guy in a suit jacket and what looks like a t-shirt with a tie printed or possibly photoshopped onto it crying next to a photoshopped in coffin featuring a white woman lying in it holding flowers pretending to be dead. behind her is a photoshopped headstone that says 'R.I.P. BRI'

i love this one so much. it's art.

a video with 289 thousand views by wand of sparking called 'can i beat terraria while stranded in the denver airport overnight?'

this one whips ass.

a video by team edge with 366 thousand views called 'i hunted people in boxes that randomly light up.' the thumbnail is of a guy dressed like a shitty ninja holding a hatchet crouched next to a glowing box with the silhouette of a person in it. the whole thing is very obviously photoshopped together.

i still have no idea what this could possibly mean and i'm sure as hell not going to watch the video to find out.

a video from luna bloom asmr with 171 thousand views titled 'ASMR eyes closed cranial nerve exam (chaotic).' the thumbnail is of a woman with blue hair holding a makeup brush and a glowing cube up to the camera.

i watched this video and it ruled so hard i subscribed to luna bloom's channel. if you like asmr content i actually highly recommend her stuff. she's very funny.

a video with 96 views by EA For Christians called Remembering our Identity. the thumbnail identifies it as the closing talk from the 2023 london conference of effective altruism for christians.

youtube has now instead of recommending me wildly popular terrible videos has taken to recommending me terrible videos with almost no views. seeing this one felt like getting punched in the face.

a video with 264 views by a channel called Barack Obama. the video is called 'this is a game for children.' the thumbnail is a screenshot of celeste.

i have nothing to say about this.

in reply to @prophetgoddess's post:

the one with the guy who made the sausages… god I’m reminded of how I first encountered that channel

A close friend of mine and I were watching videos together, and they decided to put on a video reviewing impossible chicken nuggets. The video starts, he pulls them out of the bag and looks at them. Seemed pretty normal.

Then, taking us by complete surprise. it jump cuts to him shoving them into the grinder. We both take another look at the title of the video and realize, in horror, that we both misread the title. It wasn’t impossible chicken nuggets - it was impossible chicken nuggets sausage
