Shwubbo didn't read the Terms and Conditions before installing a new program, and accidentally unleashed a curse that trapped the world in a horrible aspect ratio. Defeat the evil Installation Wizard and save the world!! or something!!

Shwubbo vs the Installation Wizard is a platformer with a cramped window you can rotate to get a better view. Its got 4 levels and a boss fight! (The black background is just there to make a nice gif, the background is actually transparent!! Godot is pretty cool)

Check it out here, and please leave a rating on the Ludum Dare page! πŸ™

Mini post mortem type thing

This is my first time ever participating in a game jam this short. I learned some very important lessons, number one being humans are not meant to make a video game in 3 days. This was exhausting!!!

I've been doing some basic prototyping in Godot, so this wasn't my first time using it, but I did learn a lot about the engine during this jam. One big lesson I learned was that it's entirely possible to accidentally install a plugin incorrectly (in my case, FMOD) and have it function for the most part and then discover way too late that it's caused a million little problems. I basically had to do surgery between 3 copies of the project folder to fix my oopsie.

I had to cut a lot of features to get this done in time (and i still had to stay up until 6am one night). I would have loved to have more level themes, more enemies, and even dialogue - the idea of having to sweep the window back and forth to read the text is hilarious to me.

I'm really happy though with how it turned out, especially the boss fight at the end. I had to come up with some weird solutions in order to get the Wizard's second phase to work properly. It was surprisingly tricky!

I think it'd be fun to flesh this project out at some point, but it'd more or less have to be remade from scratch. You have to make a LOT of bad choices in order to get a game done in 3 days, and this project is basically unsalvageable!

All in all, I had a pretty good experience with this jam, but I don't think I'll be participating again, at least not solo. I'm so tired and my hands are really mad at me and I'm a little worried I might have undone some of my progress on healing from my wrist issues :(

Also there's this enemy that I made fucked up looking for no reason. Everything else looks pretty normal and generic.

The best part of it is the first time you encounter it is in a spot that your view likely won't be on. You'll suddenly realize something is shooting projectiles at you and wonder "oh, what's shooting projectiles at me? I should take a look"
