i hesitate to say ever, but the video for Hungry Child by Hot Chip tends to be the one that i show up with when this question comes up. more diegetic music videos please :eggbug-devious:

i got a hankering to listen to Bath Full of Ecstasy this morning and this is still such a music video targeting my specific bullshit and i love it so much forever

@inbtwn

I would post the one with the astronaut that goes into space as the world blows up but I think that got taken down some years back :(

so instead I'll say this even though it isn't official

in reply to @Webster's post:

i have three different things that call into question the idea of 'what counts as a music video'

i definitely think of dye fantasy

and maybe something by lolligerjoj

idk does that count? what about uhhh jousis' latest video, the last of a series that increasingly seems like an excuse to post his music covers (which i'm fully here for let's be clear)

what about tyler jihaku, one of the highest effort AMVs ever made, old enough to vote in the upcoming election?

ok that's all for now sorry

I am a sucker for avicii's Silhouettes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VJBBUqr1wM, just for what it meant to me as a teenager. The way the rhythm of the alarms gets layered on the music, the abstract and obfuscating cuts that all lead to contextualising the song as a trans party girl anthem. It's got a bit of a Trans Surgeries Shock Value to it but not in a negative light. The song celebrates growth and change, and the video centres a trans woman in that.

Salt by Bad Suns stands out to me because if the lyrics didn't make the fact this song is about a trans person obvious to you, the music video sure will. The staging of it all is just really good, there's no way the video is actually all in one cut but it's at least framed like it is

I love the video to RΓΆyksopp's "Remind Me", though getting a good version has some issues. It's a video of highly detailed diagrams released before high-quality streaming video so most available versions are a bit flawed in some way. this version seems the least-worst in that it replaces 240p youtube artefacts with "upscaling" artefacts. Choose your poison.

Also stretching the definition of "music video" there's The TV Show - I think the song was pretty much composed for the video from what I can tell but i'm still going to post it because I love it
