i've said it before, but. man, growing up with animated GIFs makes modern .mp4 clips so crazy to me

like, back in the day, a 10-second GIF was like, fuckin. 50MB. now you can have a 10 second clip of video, with SOUND, and it's like. 1MB

GIFs are permanently ruined and can no longer be used as a still image format, programs assume it will only ever be abused for video and slap a play button on it

that's gotten me so many times. and it's a bit silly because animation in GIFs is a big hack, iirc (may be wrong)

Absolutely a hack. GIFs are dogshit at encoding video and were actually designed to do simple two or three frame clipart style animations, but users wanted to share video clips on platforms that only supported photos and this is what they did as a workaround to force the issue.
