One challenging thing every jew has to struggle with when studying the Talmud is having to read so many stories of how our ancestors apparently just really liked carob. Talmudic sages love eating carob. It's difficult to reconcile with today's contemporary values. You have to remember it was a different time and we have grown since then

i have never eaten carob before and have no idea what it tastes like but my main exposure to it was at [corporate pet supply store] where among their dog treats i would get for my dog was a fake chocolate chip cookie with carob chips
and since learning that apparently carob is a common "dog-safe chocolate substitute" i have had the recurring dog kin urge of wishing i could have weird fake dog chocolate, for, yknow, for puppy reasons!!
also, side tangent its kinda funny that there is apparently this urge to allow dogs to experience a chocolate simulacrum. like, as tho chocolate is somehow so transcendently good that humanity must bring the glory of it to even the poor benighted species cursed by evolution to find it literally fucking poisonous, with an experience of taste which is probably nothing like a human's.
i had to google what that was and one of the first links is an article about how carob traumatized an entire generation
Keep in mind they lived before chocolate was available on their continent
