It's my birthday today so I thought doing a small retrospective of my ttrpg projects in the past year. I started art school this fall, so it's been a bit slow going since then, but it's been an exciting year nonetheless! One thing I'd love to do more of going forward is collaboration with others! I mainly work with my friend August, but I'd definitely love to take on a more diverse range of projects than what just the two of us can do!
Glamour of Our Youth
This was the project that started me on my game design journey! I started on it alone about two years ago, and this year August and I finally managed to put out a playtest version. I'm still slowly working on putting together the final version, but that's a huge load of mainly graphic design work. Everything needed to play the game is there, so if you've wanted to tell a teen drama story with supernatural elements, be sure to check it out! It's an incredibly versatile game and I am immensely proud of what we accomplished.
Armour Astir Playbooks Aplenty!
Playbooks are always a nice bite-sized chunk of game design. It's great to work in an established system and play with the toys available therein. August and I wrote 13 playbooks for Armour Astir by Briar sovereign this year, including the 106th Astir Squadron series and Strangers in the Night. Some of the most fun I've had designing this year is writing the Noita and the Miscreated.
Forbidden Psalms for the Wretched
Forbidden Psalms is what I feel is a really fun game. It's about taking a religious pilgrimage through a dangerous and dark land, with trouble lurking around every corner. I'm super proud of the central engine of this game, since it feels super fun to play! Hopefully I can get around to that legacy update sometime this year to make it even more fun!
The Future
August and I have several projects in the works, including a Witcher-inspired monster-hunting folklore PbtA game, several playbooks for FATHOM, as well as others. I also have a couple smaller projects in the works, including one inspired heavily by Estonian history and folklore. I'm hoping to finally put the finishing touches on that one, since writing it has been such an emotional journey.
