Reading Dijon's posts leading up to their review of this book didn't prepare me for the depth of how hard it fails. I'm vicariously angry about half a dozen things in this book I've never read.

Somehow no, and yes it is literally about a warlock who grew up rural poor and lives in a trailer. In spite of the the name the first book in the trilogy is genuinely quite good? Possibly because the author is pretty obviously drawing directly from his own life and history. The second suffers from terminal Middle Book Disease.
