I've been reading romance novels again, I have some bite-sized reviews to share from May!
Oak King Holly King by Sebastian Nothwell
I was looking forward to this one for a long time (because we absolutely do need more fairy romance novels with boys in) before I got my hands on it but I didn't realize it was over five hundred pages and my god did it not earn them. It's basically insta-love and the B plot is not compelling enough to carry the next 400 pages, unfortunately. Two-ish stars, rounded up to three for Wren and Butcher being DORK ASS Gawain and the Green Knight fanboys when they’re trying to flirt.
The Sorceress Transcendent by Casey Blair
This one had the opposite problem: it claims to be an epic fantasy enemies-to-lovers... in a hundred pages? Not a chance. However, The Sorceress Transcendent is actually really cute and sweet, if what you want is two retired all-star soldiers clawing out space for themselves in the shadow of a war they no longer want any part of. It's just, you know, not either an epic fantasy or an enemies-to-lovers romance. At all. Four stars, minus half a star for false advertising.
Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner
Okay this one is easy: is “She said she loves me and only wants be with me and we’ve had sex five times this week and I’ve met her mother but she was probably just being a good friend” your favorite lesbian romance dynamic? Do you love an ADHD 4 Autism couple? You'll like Cleat Cute.
