Apropos of recent events (which could be any of a number of events lol) if you get tricked by someone faking a whole ass personality or story, or someone milkshake ducks, it's really okay that you were fooled.
Does it suck and feel bad? Well yeah, you're only human. That's part of the trade-off of building a connected society, you have to take that risk. The alternative is to be constantly digging up information or being actively hostile to every and any person which is a waste of time and life.
I was thinking about this with respect to the one that I feel like hit me and, you know, I'm trying to think of it in the same way I think about giving a stranger money. Like, yes, you may be getting deceived, but I'd rather be open to helping and occasionally being fooled than closed off completely.
Guard yourself, obviously, but going through life constantly doubting and fact checking everything sounds exhausting and so much of life is already exhausting.
