I realize I say "crest" throughout when I probably simply mean "shield" but I can't be bothered to replace them everywhere so I'm leaving it as it is.
Ontario
Union Jack in the corner with a crest? Boring and unimaginative. ⭐
Quebec
Distinctive and easily recognizable at a distance with the iconic fleur de lis. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nova Scotia
Simple and distinctive with a cool dragon. However I fundamentally don't believe flags should have crests or seals on them because they should be standalone, independent symbols. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
New Brunswick
Fantastic, love the dragon, love the boat. However I think it's a little much. This would be suitable for a crest, but not really a flag, since it's complex and not necessarily recognizable at a distance. But very good! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Manitoba
Nope. Same problem as Ontario. ⭐
British Columbia
A bit busy isn't it? It's full of stripes and waves and spikes. Why does the union jack have a crown in the middle? In fact I think the entire top half could be removed, and just use the bottom half alone. A sun overtop blue waves would be distinctive enough. This would probably be two stars, but I'm biased since I'm from BC, so ⭐⭐⭐
Prince Edward Island
I like the dragon but the island with the tree is way too detailed and looks ugly. Also what's with the uneven red boxes on the side? Absolutely infuriating that they're not on the left edge. ⭐⭐
Saskatchewan
What did I say? No crests! However the colour scheme is quite unique, and the flower is a good symbol, if far too detailed. Unfortunately, unlike Nova Scotia, you cannot simply ignore the crest, which itself also has too many components. ⭐⭐⭐
Alberta
No crests. ⭐
Newfoundland
Absolutely fantastic design. Simple, geometric, iconic, distinctive, identifiable, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Northwest Territories
No crests. ⭐
Yukon
No crests. ⭐
Nunavut
Yet another paragon of flag design. Easily recognizable with its inukshuk, but not overly complicated. Elegance and beauty. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
