having one of those cool moments where, because of how Face Nerves work, i can't tell if i:

  • have a sore throat (EVIDENCE IN FAVOR: swollen lymph node there)
  • have tooth pain (EVIDENCE AGAINST: pretty sure it's the tooth that doesn't have any nerve endings in it anymore, this is not unheard of as i do still have phantom pain there sometimes)
  • have an earache (EVIDENCE AGAINST: this has never actually been the problem)
  • some combination thereof (EVIDENCE FOR: would make sense with the sort of shit i've got going on)

or rather, i have all of them, but i have no idea what the True Problem Source is. fun stuff!

literally been dealing with one of those this week lmao

sore jaw on left side... little sore from having bitten my cheek & other sharp food injuries because my mouth is too easily damaged... scratchy throat from post nasal drip... parsing whether or not i should be dentist-level concerned

lmao god I was told by multiple dentists over the years that my wisdom teeth were fine as long as they weren't hurting me. then I start going to a dental school aged 28 and they go "ok so your wisdom teeth came in literally sideways and are causing problems and need to come out asap"

honestly the sheer number of people i know who were told "naaaaaaaaah it's fine" until they were finally told "these need to come out immediately" makes me think dentists would have a better success rate just saying "if you can afford to get them yanked then we may as well even if it might not be totally necessary"

hopefully we're headed that way. like this is only my experience but it was older, established dentists who ignored them, while all of the student dentists I saw were being taught to suggest taking them out regardless. the students were also all just...better dentists 🤔
