oooh maybe I should join pillowfort...
I don't use cohost like a tumblr replacement and I don't want to so it would be cool to have a tumblr replacement
and I wanna to be on Everything
except threads. threads has extra stinky vibes and if I weren't on instagram from the legacy days I would not be joining anything fb. I am on bluesky w some math phd students I know through twitter and that is perfectly sufficient for me
I like the mechanics of posting and reblogging on pillowfort, it's like different from tumblr just as cohost is different from tumblr but in a completely different way, if that makes sense
although it's disappointing not being able to create your own threads of posts (which I often do on here to postpend more thoughts) it's a very post-first model that puts the focus on just the post and has the same justification behind not having quote toots on mastodon really, to prevent pile-ons
having communities also works a little better than using tags to group together posts because there's more of a canonical community than there is a canonical tag for a topic, which on here ends up meaning I need to use and also check multiple tags
being able to share something to multiple communities in the case where a post spans multiple interests is a great inclusion too, it's basically like an explicit mechanic for subreddit crossposting that's actively encouraged
in fact I'd say it takes idea from what works on tumblr and what works on reddit and combines them in a pretty coherent way
admittedly the communities I'm interested aren't very active unfortunately but I will do my part in the upcoming weeks to post in the eurovision community lmao
it's also palpably janky like the search function tends to not load properly for some reason, I hope along with more features they also focus on polishing these little UX aspects that kind of make a really big impression on feel
hopefully after a while I'll have followed enough people to see some homegrown memes! some things just aren't posts that can be neatly categorized into communities and I'm glad they've kept this aspect of personalizing your own fort by posting and reposting into it
