playing pokémon legends arceus at the same time as my partner is playing scarlet\violet really highlights that they really improved the formula in legends. and then they just didn't keep much of it for scarlet/violet?

the way speed works in leg arc is way more interesting than "who goes first". learning more than 4 moves is so much better. TMs being replaced with an instructor who just says "this pokemon can learn these moves" gives you so much more freedom with less hassle... but none of that really carried over

I agree that Arceus is better, but I was never able to understand how the initiative system worked there. It's not explained outside of "agile moves are quicker", which doesn't help when half the time selecting agile doesn't even change the move order.

Hard agree with having an instructor instead of TMs. I get locking powerful moves until you're strong enough for them to make sense, but not having to drag myself all over the place looking for that one important TM I missed was very nice.
